Why was my clinic’s Google profile suspended?

Google suspends profiles that appear to break its guidelines. Common triggers for clinics are extra words in the name, an address that doesn’t qualify, duplicate profiles and review manipulation. The notice in your profile and email tells you where to start.

Read the notice first

Sign in to the account that manages the profile and look at the message. It may name a reason, or only say that the profile doesn’t follow the guidelines. Check email for messages from Google too. Don’t change several things at random, because you will lose track of what mattered.

Two states can look alike. A suspended profile is hidden or limited because of a guideline problem. A profile awaiting verification simply hasn’t been confirmed yet. Their fixes are different.

The usual causes

  • Name with extras. Google asks for the real name shown on your sign and site. Adding keywords, a town or a description can lead to suspension.
  • An address that doesn’t qualify. Virtual offices, shared mail drops and places where patients can’t meet you are not eligible.
  • Duplicates. More than one profile for the same location. See one profile per location.
  • Mismatched details. The name, address or phone number differ from your website or signage.
  • Wrong or stuffed categories. Categories that don’t describe the business.
  • Review problems. Incentivised reviews, review gating or reviews from staff and family. See the review rules.
  • Edits by several people. A change from an old agency or former employee can trip a check.

How to fix and appeal

  1. Compare your profile to the current guidelines and note anything that doesn’t match.
  2. Correct the problem on the profile and make your website and signage consistent.
  3. Gather evidence that the business is real: photos of the sign and the entrance, a lease or utility bill, your registration, and your website showing the same details.
  4. Submit the reinstatement request in your profile and answer any follow-up.
  5. Wait. Don’t submit repeated requests, which can slow things down.

Google decides, and we can’t promise an outcome or a timeline. Some profiles come back quickly, others need more evidence or a second request.

While you wait

Your website, booking software and phone still work, so make sure patients can reach you. Put your booking link and phone number clearly at the top of your homepage. Don’t create a new profile to get around the suspension, since it can look like duplication and make things worse.

If you use ads that show your location or call extensions, check that they are still running correctly and not pointing to the suspended profile.

Not sure where your clinic stands? We’ll look at it the way a new patient does and send a short written report. No pitch.

Avoiding it next time

Keep one person responsible for the profile. Keep a record of changes. Review the guidelines when you rebrand, move or add a location. Avoid agencies that offer shortcuts, such as buying reviews or adding keywords to the name.

Questions owners ask

Is a suspension permanent?

Not necessarily. Many can be reinstated once the cause is fixed and the business is proved real. Outcomes vary.

Will I lose my reviews?

Reviews stay with the profile. If it is reinstated they should return, but we can’t promise it.

Should I pay someone who promises a quick fix?

Be careful. No one can speed up Google’s decision. Ask exactly what they will do and avoid anyone offering to bypass the rules.
