Why is my clinic not showing up in Google Maps?
The usual causes are an unverified or suspended profile, a wrong or missing category, an address Google can’t match, or simply that you are not close enough to the searcher compared with other clinics. Check those four in order before spending money on anything else.
Step 1: confirm you actually have a live profile
Search your exact clinic name on Google and on Google Maps while signed out. If nothing appears, you may have no profile, an unverified one, or a suspended one. Sign in to the Google account that manages it and open your profile. It should say it is verified. If it asks for verification, complete it. If it mentions a suspension, see why a profile gets suspended.
Also check that there are not two profiles for the same location, which can confuse Google. Each location should have one profile. See one profile per location.
Step 2: check name, address, phone and category
Google matches searches to profiles using the details you provide. Look for these problems:
- Category. Your main category should describe your core service as specifically as you can, such as physiotherapist or chiropractor. A vague or wrong one means you appear for the wrong searches. Add only the extra categories that are true.
- Address. It should match your signage and website, in the same format everywhere. A suite number missing from one place can create a mismatch.
- Service area. If patients only come to you, do not list an area you do not serve.
- Hours and phone. Missing or wrong hours can make a profile less useful to searchers.
Step 4: strengthen what you control
Once the basics are right, improve the signals you can influence:
- Fill in every field: services, description, photos of the clinic and team, and a booking link.
- Ask patients for honest reviews and reply to them. See the review rules.
- Make sure your website names the same services and town as your profile, and has a page for each service you want to be found for.
- Keep your details the same on other listings you use.
Don’t rely on call counts from your profile to judge this. Google removed call history from Business Profiles in July 2024. The profile still counts taps on the Call button, but that misses calls dialled by hand and can’t tell you who called or whether they booked, so use your own call tracking and booking data instead.
Not sure where your clinic stands? We’ll look at it the way a new patient does and send a short written report. No pitch.
Questions owners ask
Why do I show up for my name but not for “physiotherapist near me”?
Searching your name is easy to match. Generic searches depend on category, distance and competition, which takes more work and time.
Can I pay to appear in the map results?
Ads can appear above the map listings, but that is separate from your Business Profile. See Google Ads for clinics.
I moved the clinic. What do I do?
Update the address on your existing profile rather than creating a new one, and expect to re-verify. Update your website and other listings the same day.
