How do I add online booking to my clinic website?

Use the booking link or button from your clinic software, put a clear Book online button at the top of your homepage and service pages, and test it as a new patient on a phone. You rarely need a new website, because booking tools usually provide a link you can add to any site.

Step 1: check what your software already offers

If you use Jane, Cliniko or a similar system, it likely has a public booking page for your clinic. Log in and look for online booking settings. Decide which appointment types a new patient can book, which practitioners are available and how far ahead they can book. Your booking software holds the appointments and patient details, so the website only needs to send people to it.

If you have more than one location or practitioner, check whether you can create separate links, so the visitor lands on the right schedule.

Step 3: place it where people decide

  • At the top of the homepage, in the first screen.
  • In the main menu, labelled “Book online”.
  • On every service and condition page, near the top and again at the end.
  • On your contact page next to the phone number.
  • In your Google profile’s booking link. See the booking button on your profile.
  • In emails and social bios.

Use plain words like “Book your first visit”. Avoid “Submit enquiry”.

Step 4: test it like a new patient

Open your site on a phone, not on Wi-Fi. Try to book a first visit without calling. Count the taps and note where you hesitated. Check:

  • Does the button work and open the right page?
  • Can a new patient choose the right appointment type?
  • Do confirmation emails or texts arrive?
  • Does the booking show up in your schedule?
  • What happens if no times are open?

In our November 2026 scan of 4,348 physio and chiro homepages, 33% of physio and 26% of chiro homepages had no online booking we could find. See the study.

Not sure where your clinic stands? We’ll look at it the way a new patient does and send a short written report. No pitch.

Step 5: protect privacy and rules

Booking happens inside your software, so avoid collecting health details in a general website form. Say what is collected and why. Privacy rules differ by province and state, and this is not legal advice.

Keep a phone option

Some patients prefer to call, and some can’t book online. Keep your number visible and make sure it is answered. See how to stop missing calls.

Questions owners ask

Do I need a developer?

Often not. Pasting a link into a button is a short job in a typical site editor. Embeds may need a little more help.

Should new and returning patients use the same button?

Not always. A separate path for new patients lets you offer the right appointment length and ask the right questions.

How do I know it is working?

Count online bookings in your software and see where they came from. See measuring booked first visits.
